Help and advice about sewing, sewing machines, setting up your sewing space and even more.
“You know honey”, said my beloved, “ It is hard for me to believe that you love sewing as much as you say you do. All I hear coming out of your sewing room is some incredibly blue language and threats to throw your sewing machine in the pool.”
Does that sound like words you may have heard? I have been sewing since I was nine and I am on the far side of fifty, and there are still projects that I don’t finish, or simply throw away.
But, in those decades of sewing clothing, crafts and home dec items I have learned a lot about sewing machines, notions, and fabric.
Sewing Insider is my way of welcoming you, the novice or returning sewist to the sewing room. You don’t need the most expensive sewing machine that does everything except brew coffee. You can use bargain table fabrics, but never, ever skimp on thread and needle quality.
Tidbits like that about thread and needles are sprinkled throughout this site.
I have enlisted experienced sewists to tell you about why they sew, and have asked them to tell you about their sewing machines.
Let Sewing Insider help you decide on what kind of sewing machine you should buy, and whether you should spring for a new one, or get a good used machine.
You need to know what tools are a must have in your sewing basket.
And whether your sewing space is the kitchen table, a state-of-the art sewing studio or something in between, you can find out in these pages how to have a comfortable place to sew.
And please ask questions on our questions pages. Upload pictures of your projects and your sewing space.
Don't forget to follow me on Twitter for regular sewing hints and tips.
